Welcome to My Life…

My trip to NY is over. It was long, sad, and happy. It was really funny because I didn’t realize how much I missed NY until we were descending over the city.

Mia picked me up on Wednesday and we went to grandpas and then to Dawn’s wake. It was really sad. She was dressed in her graduation gown-something she was suppose to be wearing that night-only she was suppose to be alive and at her graduation ceremony instead of where she was.

I saw a lot of family I hadn’t seen in awhile and we returned on Thursday to say our final goodbyes and go to the burial. She was buried next to my grandma-my mom’s mom-which I know was hard for her, but we put flowers near her grave which was really nice.

After the funeral we went to old country buffet and then headed home. On the way home we detoured through Brooklyn to see Mia’s apartment and then headed home.

On Friday Eric was supose to come in on an early flight, but it got cancelled. Luckily he got onto a later flight and took the train up and was at the house at 730. Yay!

Saturday was Tim’s graduation-the ceremony was amazingly not boring and the part afterwards was fun. It was great to see so many people!

Sunday I spent time with my family and then got onto the train and headed to the Bronx where we ate sushi with Amey and spent the night. We flew back from La Guardia today, picked up Hana (who seems angry with us-despite the fact that she went to Doggie camp and had a ton of fun), swung by Dicks to find some shoes I want, got Chinease food, and came home.

Now I am getting ready to head to bed. I am exhausted and need some much needed sleep.

So as you can tell, the last week has been a bit rough. My cousin passed away and I was able to fly in a few days early for her funeral (which was yesterday). Now I am back upstate getting ready for my brothers graduation party. He graduates tomorrow and is the last of us to leave Taconic Hills!

Its been a bit hectic here. We ran into problems with the rental car and now eric isn’t getting one and he was on his way t the airport this morning when i realized i had a voicemail. I checked it and found out his flight had been cancelled. UGH! Since we both flew standby that was not good! However, he was able to get onto a 3:00 pm flight and just landed in NY. He is now in a cab on his way to Grand Central to catch a train up here. Yippee!

Syosset senior killed by car days before graduation

Leslie, 18, recognized as the student of the month of June at Syosset High School, was killed late Saturday when she was hit by a car while crossing a street in Oyster Bay Cove.

The accident happened four days before she was to graduate from Syosset with a Regents diploma. Leslie had planned to attend Tiffin University in Ohio to pursue a degree in criminal law.

She had aspired to work as a police officer, Syosset high school principal Jorge Schneider said Monday.

“She was a very likable young lady,” Schneider said. “Everybody is devastated.”

About 11:10 p.m. Saturday, a 2003 Toyota Avalon traveling east along Route 25A hit Leslie as she attempted to walk north across the roadway, police said.

The driver, whom police did not name, tested negative on a field sobriety test, police said. No charges have been filed. Detectives are investigating the crash, police said.

Family members could not be reached by early Monday afternoon.

Leslie was recognized this month by her teachers as a student of the month, exhibiting positive character traits in addition to academic rigor, her principal said.

A moment of silence will be held at the beginning of Wednesday’s graduation ceremony to remember Leslie. Schneider said that Leslie’s wake is scheduled during that time.

Jenna Levere said she had planned to sit with Leslie at their graduation.

“Any person that got to knew her loved her,” Levere said. “She had a smile that would make anyone smile, and the most contagious laugh. I just planned on being her friend forever.”
